Football in Tongji has long been developed over the past hundreds of years. In 1913, the first football team was established in Tongji University. In 1936, the football teaching course was officially set up. Throughout its over 100-year history, Tongji University has made aspiring and fruitful contributions in football talents training, scientific research, international communication, cultural exchanges and football education reform.

Taking advantages of profound cultural heritage of football, advanced development philosophy, high-quality brand resources, strong interdisciplinary integration platform and distinctive international exchange mode, Tongji University has carried forward the national football development strategy, and established its International College of Football in 2017.

Scientific Research

The College has set up "Tongji University Football Think Tank", "Tongji University Football Research Center", "Tongji ---- Edith Cowen Football Scientific Research Center" and other departments to be committed to the scientific research and cultural exchanges of football as well as scientific reference for the revitalization and development of Chinese football.

International Communication

Relying on its strong resources mainly in Europe and Americas being developed,  International College of Football of Tongji was established with a strategic layout of European football as the core. At present, it has built positive relations with football associations, famous universities and clubs in Britain, Germany, France, Brazil, Spain, Russia, Australia, Japan and other countries through balanced interchange and open cooperation, so as to promote the internationalized development of football and explore diversified training of football talents.

Social Commitment

Tongji University, as the pioneer and leader of China's football education reform, serves as the chairman or the executive unit of Football Branch of Federation of University Sport of China(FUSC), Shanghai School Football League and Sino-German School Football League. It has made great contributions in reform and development of China's football education especially in personnel training.
